List of the Top Selling Singles Worldwide

by michael on July 17, 2009

I can’t help but be thrilled by the music industry and as with Albums I was really curious to see what the biggest selling singles have been. Michael Jackson’s death has made me think of lots of music history trivia so here are the biggest selling singles of all time.

1.     Candle in the Wind – Elton John - 37 million copies

2.     White Christmas – Bing Crosby – 30 million copies

3.     Silent Night – Bing Crosby – 30 million copies

4.     It’s Now or Never – Elvis Presley – 28 million copies

5.     Rock Around the Clock – Bill Haley & His Comets – 25 million copies

6.     Coracao de Luto – Teixeirinha – 25 million copies

7.     We are the World – USA for Africa – 20 million copies

8.     In the Year 2525 – Zager and Evans – 20 million copies

9.     If I Didn’t Care – The Ink Spots – 19 million copies

10. Billo De Ghar – Abrar-ul-Haq – 16 million copies

The interesting thing about this list is that Elton John has the biggest selling single ever and he is still releasing music. I remember “We are the World” but it was so long ago. Maybe it shows how we buy differently due to technology. It’s such an interesting thing to watch.
